There are four places real savings come from, and bigger jobs usually combine several:

Xcel Energy is the main electric utility across most of the Twin Cities metro, and its rebate programs reward electric-side efficiency. Historically that has included rebates for high-efficiency central air conditioners, air-source and cold-climate heat pumps, and smart thermostats, with heat pumps often carrying the largest incentives as Minnesota pushes cold-climate electrification.

CenterPoint Energy is the metro's primary natural-gas utility, so its rebates focus on gas equipment, most notably high-efficiency furnaces (and often smart thermostats and gas water heaters). As a rule of thumb, the higher a furnace's AFUE efficiency rating, the larger the rebate tends to be.

As with Xcel, the dollar figures move with each program year, so verify the current amount rather than relying on last year's number. Confirm your address is in CenterPoint's gas territory, then check their site or ask us which furnaces qualify right now.
